Maroubra townhouse
interior repaint

Three levels of interior painting, from marked ceilings and an older blue feature wall to bright rooms and dark metal balustrades. This Maroubra townhouse project included the stairwells, three upstairs rooms, timber trim and built-in shelving.

The interior before repainting

The living room had a blue feature wall, and the existing stair railings were a light colour. The ceiling, particularly above the kitchen, had accumulated cooking marks and staining. Bringing the rooms and stairwells together required preparation as well as a new finish.

Floor protection was used where needed. The carpeted areas shown without covers were scheduled for carpet replacement after painting, so those areas were left uncovered for the work.

Preparing the ceiling and cabinetry junction

We sanded the affected ceiling surfaces and used an oil-based stain-blocking primer before repainting. The preparation photographs show the ceiling at this intermediate stage, before the finishing coats.

The gap between the kitchen cabinetry and ceiling also needed attention. We filled the junction with Sikaflex to produce a neater transition. This detail work helped improve the finished appearance around the kitchen.

Refinishing the metal balustrades

The stair balustrades were retained and refinished. We sanded the existing metalwork, applied a primer and then two coats of Dulux Metalshield. The dark finish gives the railings a clear outline against the lighter walls and ceilings.

Regular vacuuming and cleaning during the work helped limit dust settling onto the fresh metal coating as it dried. The photographs show both the application and the completed change in colour.

Rooms, timber trim and built-in shelving

The repaint continued through the interior across all three levels, including the three rooms upstairs and connecting stairwells. Timber trim received a Dulux semi-gloss finish. For the painted bathroom areas, we used a kitchen and bathroom coating with resistance to mould growth.

The built-in shelving was also painted as part of the agreed interior work. Finished views show the lighter living area alongside the newly darkened railings. Some photographs were taken while small items and remaining fit-out work were still present.
